Help Save East End History!

Posted by Liam Howlett on 16th Jul 2015

Tired of seeing the historic landmarks of the East End demolished to make way for ugly concrete messes?! Well, so is The Gentle Author of Spitalfields Life, and so are we.

In the East End, the current background noise consists mostly of constant drilling and construction work. We’ve seen fantastic Victorian and Edwardian structures give way and fall under the whims of corporate greed.

Norton Folgate has existed in it’s current state more or less since the 19th century, and is currently the area that stands between the City and the amazing hub of Spitalfields square. British Land, a company that has target the area since 1977, is putting forward a proposal to demolish the amazing and historic architecture in place of corporate offices and probably another “Express Super-market”

Join Hands to Save Norton Falgate

The author of Spitalfields Life, an amazing and insightful blog about daily life in East London, is organising a human chain to be formed around the historic area on Sunday 19th of July, 3 days before Tower Hamlets Planning Committee meets to decide the fate of Norton Folgate (on the 21st of July). As said by The Gentle Author “We hope this event will be a focus for everyone who believes old buildings should be repurposed rather than destroyed, as is happening across London at this moment.”

You can find out more about the Event on the Spitalfields Life website here:
