Music icons and flower power. Introducing: Kris Tate

Posted by Rebeca Romero on 14th Aug 2018

Kris Tate is an independent illustrator who lives in a world of geometrical colour with animals from the forest. She was born in the city of Guatemala where her native culture inspired her to start creating art. She moved to the UK and is now living and working in Barcelona where she develops her creations. Her style is bright, bold colours and gestures with references back to the 80's and 90's.

Kris's latest collection is packed with 60's music icons and flower power motifs. We asked her a couple of questions about her work and inspiration and here is what she said.

What inspires you and what inspired your recent series?

My recent series is inspired by the 60's, my favourite era. I love 60's rock, fashion, music and french 60's music, artists like Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin, I created a piece inspired by the pure love they had, I also love the style of the 60's so psychedelic colorful and happy. I try to develop each character in an interesting way,  so they can live forever in my soul

What's your favourite place to travel. Why?

I live in Barcelona, I'm very happy to be in this cosmopolitan city! Full of artists, architecture, art and gastronomy. It is a very busy city I love the beach too so I must say this is currently my favourite place on Earth.

Is there an image in this series you feel specially attached to? Any favourites?

I don't know really, I like them all. I've made them with love and dedication, so, no favourites! ;D

How would you describe your work/ style?

My style is very retro, as you see some of my works. Inspired by psychodelic, bright 60's colours.

It reminds me of my favorite era.
