For our penultimate Women's History Month feature, we chatted to the wonderful Emmy Lupin about the beauty of a work-life balance and the importance of flexing your creative muscles. You can explore Emmy's colourful collection here, or read the feature below.

What gets you out of bed in the morning?

Realistically, my dog when she kicks off about needing to go for a walk.. no, really - I don’t take for granted that I get to do what I love each day. Having the scope to create art for a living is something I could have only dreamed of a few years ago - and here I am! At the moment I’m in a sweet spot where I have a few different projects I’m working on, with room for some personal ones to flex my creative muscles too. That is what gets me out of bed, the idea of working on something that’s going to bring some colourful joy to someone’s day.

What is your favourite thing about what you do?

I think the flexibility, and ability to create my own routine has been a game changer. My non-negotiables in a day are coffee, a walk, and journalling (something I’ve found great joy in, both for my mind and art practice this year). When it comes to my work, I love being able to tell a story in an illustration, or reflect on female friendship, or nuances in the way we live. I put a lot of thought into making sure my work is relatable, but also empowering. That’s what I want people to feel when they look at my work, and I put a lot of myself and my feelings within that.

How do you celebrate your achievements as a female artist?

I am all for celebrating any achievements - big and small. I think women, especially self employed, are too slow to celebrate themselves and I always make sure I shout from the rooftops when I’m proud of something I’ve done. The more women see other women succeeding, the more we can believe we can do it. I love to see other female artists doing the same, and I am the biggest cheerleader of my peers. As I’m self employed, I often drag my friends into celebrating with me - cocktails and cake are a must. Explore Emmy's Collection here.
