Cape Glossy Starling
Cape Glossy Starling perched on a Camel Thorn Tree.
They’re illustrations which have particular meaning to me. The Birds are Cape Glossy Starlings, a bird that I fell in love with all over again when I went back to South Africa for the first time in a decade and the branch the birds are perched on is of a tree that the last time I was there, nearly ended my illustration career before it began.
I was cutting branches for firewood and as I cut through one branch, another that was being held in place like a coiled spring, swung up punching a thorn through the middle knuckle on my right hand.
It took 4 courses of antibiotics to clear up the subsequent infection, I’ve still got the thorn in a little box and the occasional aches in my hand to remind me of it.
